Gem of the Month: SAPPHIRE

Sapphire is what beach getaway dreams are made of. Located on the alluring Kailua Beach in Oahu, this property features a true tropical paradise outside and a state-of-the-art kitchen, gym, and five suite-style bedrooms indoors. Read on to discover why the Obamas spent the holidays in this stunning estate.

Built-in 2008, Sapphire feels like a resort – but all to yourself. It includes its own access to the beach and a private outdoor area designed to look like a rainforest, waterfall included! However, according to owner Glenn Weinberg, its main feature wasn’t man-made: “everything in the home is beautiful, but it all pales in comparison to the ocean, mountains, and landscaping visible throughout the property.” We definitely agree: even from the master bathroom, you can enjoy an enchanting Hawaiian sunrise over the Pacific ocean.

Stunning Indoors

So, where do we start? The open floor layout is warm and inviting. It connects the living room, dining room, and kitchen through sliding doors. There are no bumping elbows in this place. The fully-equipped kitchen itself is fit for a team of professionals, like the White House staff that catered to the Obamas multiple times.

When it comes to sleeping arrangements, the master bedroom is as good as it gets. Guests can gaze at the jaw-dropping beach views from the floor-to-ceiling windows. The master bathroom features a lavish tub overlooking the ocean, two vanities, a shower with a steam function, and a raindrop shower. “The view outside is spectacular and unable to be duplicated with architecture,” describes Greg.

Lush Outdoors

What does paradise look like? For us is sitting in Sapphire’s backyard and gazing at the beach while sipping on Mai Thais. The landscape is what makes this property genuinely unique: it was designed to look like a jungle oasis. The custom pool even includes tiles that look like coral reef and volcanic rocks. If this is not enough, the outdoor area also features a waterfall, a spa, and a stream. Laying in the hammock and forgetting about the world sounds just perfect.

Greg is also fascinated by the lush backyard – and its recurring visitors: “the various birds that inhabit the landscaping also sing songs that I don’t hear from birds elsewhere.”

Sapphire is a true gem with a beach view. “We purchased the house so that my family and I could have paradise whenever we want it,” explains Greg. With this Kailua house, it seems like paradise is right here on Earth.
