Did you know that the U.S. is brimming with some of the most beautiful and most photographed mountain ranges in the world? As a tribute to the incredible natural wonders that surround us, we’ve compiled this list of the must-see U.S. mountains, and we hope that it inspires you to visit at least one of them in the not-too-distant future. So, here we go…
THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN IN THE U.S.: Denali, aka Mount McKinley, in Alaska
First up, in case you were wondering, our U.S. geography is more than on point. While it doesn’t border with any of the other U.S. states, Alaska is most definitely U.S. territory, and it’s home to the highest mountain in North America.
Sometimes referred to as Denali or as Mount McKinley, this awe-inspiring mountain sits at 20,310 feet above sea level, in the middle of the Denali National Park and Preserve. There are only two other mountains in the world that are higher than Denali: Mount Everest in Nepal and Aconcagua in Argentina. When we say that Denali is a high mountain, make no mistake that we mean high!
THE MOST PHOTOGRAPHED MOUNTAIN RANGE IN THE U.S.: Maroon Bells
It’s no secret that we LOVE Colorado, so it’s no surprise that two of the must-see mountains on our list are located in this incredibly exhilarating and refreshing state. The first on the list is called Maroon Bells, located just a few minutes away from the iconic ski town of Aspen. Even a simple search on Google will serve to illustrate just how many photographs are taken of these gorgeous peaks. When you see them in person, it’s easy to understand why.
Bright red in color, jagged mountain tops, and pristine national forest land make it difficult to not fall even just a little bit in love with Maroon Bells. So, if you manage to visit, make sure your camera is good enough to do them justice. You’ll be snapping away at every turn.
THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN IN COLORADO: Mount Elbert
The second Colorado mountain to make our Top 4 List is Mount Elbert. It’s the highest mountain in Colorado and the tallest peak in what’s known as the Rocky Mountain Range. So, how high is high? Mount Elbert sits at 14,440 feet in the middle of the San Isabel National Forest, a stone’s throw away from the city of Leadville.
If you love to hike, then you’ll be happy to know that the hike up Mount Elbert is a long one. If you’ve got what it takes to walk at altitude for anywhere between five to 10 hours, then it’s a hike you’re bound to enjoy. What’s more, you don’t have to be a mountaineering expert to enjoy it. It’s sometimes referred to as the Gentle Giant because it’s a tall mountain, but the climb isn’t a noticeably steep one. If you’re physically fit, positively charged, and you put one foot in front of the other, then you’ll make it to the top for sure.
GET ACTIVE IN CALIFORNIA: Mount Shasta
If you love California and you live for active getaways, then we suggest a visit to Mount Shasta whenever you next come to stay. Located in the middle of the Cascade Range in Siskiyou County, Mount Shasta climbs to a beautifully-airy 14,179 feet.
Ski, hike, climb, walk, run, and breathe in that gorgeous alpine paradise air. Trek through wildflower-filled meadows, cruise your way along the surrounding rivers, streams, and waterfalls, or trudge your way deep into the depths of the alpine forests where things are cool, calm, and quiet. And if you happen to catch Mount Shasta when her peaks are covered in snow, make sure you dedicate a little time to capturing that perfect memory for your album at home.
Remember, we’re more than happy to organize a trip to any of the mountains on this list. At Omnifique, we promise to make it happen, whatever, whenever, and however you choose.
