Trend: Why Travelers Prefer Homes to Hotels

Since the beginning of summer, we’ve seen an uptick in inquiries. Also, there’s been plenty of media coverage about the growing interest in lived-in homes as the perfect accommodation during social distancing times. Read on to learn why travelers are preferring vacation rentals to hotels.

The trend is crystal clear. A report by Airdna states that US vacation rentals bookings are up 20% year on year. But why is that? What are some of the benefits that homes offer? Here are just a few examples:

  • Homes are basically less crowded. Travelers want to feel safe given the pandemic. Staying at a property where they can have almost zero interaction with outside people is a blessing. At hotels, guests have to navigate crowded hotel lobbies, elevators, and restaurants.
  • Sharing amenities is a thing of the past. Pools, hot tubs, spas, and entertainment rooms, among many other fun-filled features, are private and, therefore, safer.
  • Guests don’t have to worry about safety in the kitchen because whether they cook themselves or they hire a private chef, they control the situation.
  • Wearing a mask is only necessary when leaving the house.
  • A small staff is required to manage a vacation rental getaway. At hotels, guests run into plenty of employees coming and going.
  • Cleaning and sanitation protocols are as strict as a hotel’s. You can read more about ours here.
  • Remote vacation homes are a reality – and much more common than secluded hotels. Guests who are interested in avoiding crowds completely are happy to rent out a property located in the middle of nowhere – literally.
  • Vacation rentals are also ideal settings for corporate retreats. Teams are seeing less, and less of each other, and hotels provide little separation between guests, so homes are a natural alternative.

So, our market is bigger than ever! Do you have friends, colleagues or family members who would also be interested in sharing their homes with the world? Send them our way and we’d be happy to match them with our high-end guests.
